Velanidia Beach in Marathokampos – A Peaceful Pebble Beach in Southwestern Samos

Velanidia Beach is located in southwestern Samos, close to Ormos Marathokampou, and is an excellent choice for visitors who prefer swimming away from crowded and heavily organised beaches. With clear waters, an extensive pebbled coastline and an unspoilt natural setting, the beach retains an authentic character and is ideal for those seeking relaxation, tranquillity and greater privacy.

🏖️ Velanidia Beach

Velanidia stretches near the seaside village of Ormos Marathokampou, on the southwestern coast of Samos. It is a long and relatively quiet beach that has remained largely untouched by intensive tourism.

Its peaceful setting makes it particularly appealing to visitors who wish to enjoy the sea in a simple, calm and natural environment, away from busy beach bars and crowded tourist resorts.

🌊 Beach and Sea

The shoreline consists mainly of medium-sized and large pebbles, while the seabed is also predominantly pebbled in most areas. The waters are clear and usually calm, although sea conditions may vary depending on the wind.

The water reaches a moderate depth, so normal caution is recommended, especially when swimming with children or during periods of stronger waves.

Water shoes are useful because of the larger pebbles, both when entering the sea and while walking along the beach.

☀️ A Peaceful and Unspoilt Character

Velanidia is not a beach associated with loud music, long rows of sun loungers or constant activity. It is better suited to peaceful swimming, reading, relaxing and spending time beside the sea without excessive development or intervention in the natural landscape.

Thanks to its long coastline, visitors can usually find a quieter and more secluded spot, even during the summer months.

🧭 Access

The beach can be reached by car or on foot from the wider area of Ormos Marathokampou. Visitors can approach it through the old coastal road and the harbour promenade, while several access points are available along the coastline.

🍴 Facilities and Services

Velanidia Beach is not fully organised along its entire length. Permanent facilities such as beach bars, restaurants, umbrellas or sun loungers are limited or unavailable in most parts of the beach.

Visitors are therefore advised to bring drinking water, sun protection, an umbrella and anything else they may need during their stay.

For restaurants, cafés, shops and additional services, visitors can head to nearby Ormos Marathokampou.

📸 Photography Opportunities

The pebbled coastline, surrounding low hills, rocky sections and the open blue waters of the southwestern Aegean create a beautiful natural setting, particularly during the late afternoon when the light becomes softer.

The beach is ideal for panoramic photographs, coastal landscapes and peaceful images of the sea.
