Kasonisi on Samos – The Blue Lagoon with shallow turquoise water
Kasonisi is a small rocky islet off eastern Samos, near Kerveli and facing Asia Minor. It is not a conventional organised beach but a spectacular natural strait known as the “Blue Lagoon” because of its shallow turquoise water.
🌊 The famous shallow strait
The channel is less than 50 metres wide and under one metre deep at its shallowest point. A pale sandy seabed intensifies the turquoise colour.
🏝️ A wild unspoilt setting
Kasonisi is rocky and uninhabited, with no beach infrastructure and very little natural shade. Its appeal lies in isolation and clear water.
⛵ Access by boat
The most common and safest way to visit is by organised excursion or private boat. Seasonal trips depart from Pythagorio and other ports.
🥾 A rough land approach
A rough path of about 600 metres can provide access from the Samos side. Closed footwear, water, good fitness and reliable local guidance are necessary.
🤿 Swimming and snorkelling
The shallow water is excellent for exploration and photography in calm conditions. Deeper rocky areas suit snorkelling. Watch currents and boat traffic.
☀️ No facilities
There is no kiosk, toilet, shower or organised shade. Carry enough water, sunscreen, a hat and a waterproof phone case.
💡 Useful tip
Choose a calm day and follow the captain’s or local guide’s instructions. Kasonisi is a natural attraction rather than a serviced beach.
