Roditses Beach is located in the Kalami neighbourhood, along the northern coastal zone of Samos Town and before Gagkou Beach. It is one of the closest swimming options to the town centre and is particularly convenient for residents, visitors without a car and travellers looking for a short swim without travelling to a more distant beach.

The area combines an urban environment with direct access to the sea. Homes, accommodation establishments and visitor services are located behind the shore, while the beach offers views across the large bay of Vathy and towards the opposite side of the town.

📍 Location

Roditses is located in the Kalami neighbourhood of Samos Town, only a short distance from the General Hospital of Samos and along the coastal route continuing towards Gagkou.

Depending on the exact starting point, the beach lies approximately 700 metres to 1 kilometre from the central areas of the town and can be reached on foot in around 10–15 minutes.

In certain places, the coastal zone lies below the level of the main road, and access is provided through small descending paths, passages or steps.

Administratively, it belongs to the Community of Samos, the Municipal Unit of Vathy and the Municipality of East Samos.

🏝️ A Small Semi-Urban Coastal Zone

Roditses does not form one large, wide and completely continuous beach. The coastal zone consists of smaller and narrower sections interrupted by low walls, constructions, stones and private or semi-private waterfront areas.

Some sections provide more space for sun loungers and towels, while others are very narrow and accommodate only a small number of swimmers.

The character of the beach is practical and urban rather than secluded. Its most important advantage is its proximity to the town rather than its size or natural isolation.

The shore consists mainly of small and medium-sized pebbles, gravel and stones. Sandy or mixed surfaces can also be found in certain areas, particularly between the pebbles and close to the waterline.

Seasonal dining establishments, cafés and places serving drinks and soft drinks operate in the beach area and within a short distance.

Visitors can combine swimming with coffee, food or a drink without returning to the centre of Samos Town.

Additional options can be found within a short walking distance towards the town and towards Gagkou.

Facilities are not consistent throughout the entire beach area.

Toilets are mainly available through the neighbouring organised establishments and businesses.

There is no confirmed single public complex with showers and changing rooms serving all sections of the coast.

Roditses can be chosen by families, mainly because of its easy access, short distance from the town and usually calm water.

The smoother and shallower areas are practical for children who remain close to the shore.

Access by car or motorcycle is easy via the coastal road connecting Samos Town with Kalami and Gagkou.

There is no single central entrance serving the entire beach. Each small section has a different point of access.

🏥 Close to the General Hospital of Samos

The beach is located very close to the General Hospital of Samos in the Kalami neighbourhood.

This position helps visitors find their way, as the hospital is one of the most recognisable landmarks in the area.

The beach is not functionally connected with the hospital, and entrances or parking spaces around the hospital must remain unobstructed.

🏙️ Close to the Town but Quieter

Roditses is close enough to the town to be easily reached, yet slightly removed from the intense activity of the central waterfront avenue.

Early in the morning, the atmosphere is usually quieter, and there is a better chance of finding available space along the shore and road.

From late morning onwards, the presence of residents, visitors and guests staying in nearby accommodation increases.

🌅 Views over the Bay of Vathy

The beach offers open views across the bay of Vathy, the buildings of Samos Town and the slopes surrounding the capital.

The sheltered water, small boats and lights of the town create an attractive atmosphere in the afternoon.

The location does not provide the open horizon of the island’s outer coasts, but it offers a characteristic view of a seaside town within a large natural bay.

🚶 Combining the Visit with Samos Town and Gagkou

A visit can be combined with a walk around Samos Town, the waterfront and the shops of the centre.

In the opposite direction, the coastal road continues towards nearby Gagkou Beach, which is a separate and more organised beach.

Roditses is more practical for a short swim, while Gagkou offers a larger and more clearly defined bathing area.

Roditses Beach is not included in the official list of beaches in Samos awarded the Blue Flag for 2026.

The absence of the award is not in itself an assessment of the daily condition of the water. It means that the beach does not participate as an officially managed and awarded coast within the specific programme.
